Petter Næss (born 1960) has a wide range of experience: he writes, he acts and he’s directed som 30 stage productions.

His debut as a film director was the dark comedy Absolutt Blåmandag/Absolute Hangover in 1999, which received two Amanda awards, for Best Actress and Best Actor, that year. In 2001, Elling was released, one of the biggest blockbusters in Norwegian cinematic history (roughly 800,000 tickets sold). It was the fourth Norwegian film in history to be nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. In 2004, Næss directed the critically acclaimed youth drama Bare Bea/Just Bea. With seven features to his credit in eight years, Næss is certainly Norway’s most prolific director at this point in time.
